Strawberry Basil Martini


  • 1 cup strawberries
  • Handful of fresh basil
  • 1 cup sugar, plus 1 teaspoon, divided
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 ounces vodka or gin


Place four martini glasses in the freezer to chill.

To Make the Simple Syrup:

In a small saucepan, combine the cup of sugar and the water and bring it to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer until the sugar has dissolved. Set it aside to cool.

Muddle the strawberries, 1 teaspoon of sugar and a ¼ cup of fresh basil until the berries are mashed.

Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice. Add half the berry mixture, half the vodka and about 2 tablespoons of the simple syrup and shake well until the ingredients are combined and very cold. Strain the mixture into two of the glasses and repeat with the remaining ingredients, and then serve. Garnish with additional basil and a strawberry.
